The Military Might of China the One Guardsman
by Ndagi Abdullahi
There is no denying the fact that China is fast becoming the military power that the entire world should reckon with. The Europeans and North Americans in particular know that the rising profile of Chinese military might is fast changing the balance of power in the entire world. As a matter of fact it is only the USA that can now claim any form of military superiority, if any at all, over China. China has over the years been adroitly developing its military might with the primary aim of checking the military superiority of the USA in mind of course.
What we are seeing today is that China is gradually building itself up into a military might that will one day surpass the USA. Of course China has long ago surpassed the USA as an economic superpower, and now it is in terms of militarism that China wants to overtake the USA.
It is quite interesting to note that the USA have successfully emerged from the Cold War era as a unipolar superpower only for the USA to suddenly see China replacing the vacuum left by the fall of the USSR and thereby returning the world to the bipolar superpower scenario of the Cold War era. This is what we call the Cold War II era. It is, however, equally interesting to note this time around so many things have changed with regard to this new type of Cold War, Cold War II, that the USA/China antagonism has caused.
But before we go into the specifics of this Cold War II between the USA and the China we need to emphasize the fact that the world is currently being divided into a bipolar world with spheres of influences being voraciously gulped up by the USA on the one hand and the China on the other hand.
We see today that all over the world and in all the nooks and corners of the globe, world events and affairs are being directly and indirectly influenced and manipulated by the unsaid war between the USA and China. A very good example here is the manner in which the USA and China are secretly and silently engaged in vicious wars, this Cold War II, on the continent of Africa as both the USA and the China scramble over gigantic areas of influence between them on the African continent.
Most of the economic and even political activities going on in most African countries today are vigorously being influenced and silently fought over by the Americans and the Chinese. It is really interesting to note that unknown to the generality of the people a new Cold War is here again but this time around it is between the USA and China. The only main difference here being that this new Cold War is more economic than political at least for now and also that both the USA and China have not officially declared yet that they are involved in a Cold War.
But the USA and China don’t have to formally or officially declare that they are involved in a Cold War before the entire world should know that there is a serious Cold war waging between the Americans and China.
As matter of fact almost all the foreign policy activities of the USA in almost all parts of the world today are being promulgated and planned out with China as an opponent in mind. And interestingly enough the same also applied to Chinese policy makers, namely, that whatever is being plan or promulgated by the Chinese authorities is always done with the USA in mind as an opponent.
What both China and the US are busy doing today is dividing the world into spheres of influences wherein they would fight their proxy wars against each other outside their territorial boundaries. This is why we see the example of Africa, for instance, as a very illustrative one in this context. In the case of Africa, as we have demonstrated above, we can see how the Americans and the Chinese are both busy fighting each other using African leaders as political proxies and African nations as economic battle fields.
The Americans and the Chinese are right now locked in an unstated Cold War that is engulfing the entire world. China is rapidly emerging as the only world superpower that can effectively challenge the world domination of America and it is no wonder therefore that American authorities and policy makers are not taking the threat of a superpower Chinese for granted. But the interesting thing here is that the Americans are not yet ready to admit to the general public and the entire world that China has grown into a formidable force that they are reckoning with. And it is this lack of admission by the USA that has made most people not to be aware o the fact that there is a Cold War ongoing between the USA and China.
In any case, and whether the Americans or the Chinese admit it or not, we all know that there is a Cold War going between the USA and China,. We all know that the world is back to a Cold War era but this time around it is between the USA and China and no more between the USA and the USSR.
But then one other factor that had made the Americans to conveniently say nothing about this Cold War II is the fact that this Cold War between China and the USA is an ultra-Cold War in the sense that it is mainly an economic Cold War and not an overtly political or even ideological one as was the case with the Cold War between the USA and the USSR.
Because this Cold War II is an invisibly economic one most people are not even aware of the fact that there is such a Cold War going on. It is for instance such the case that most people are not aware of the fact that the USA and China are right now engaged in a vicious and serious economic war on the continent of Africa, Africa being the fastest growing economy in the world today and hence the right place for such an economic battle between the USA and China.
What we should note here is that because the modern Cold War between the USA and China is mainly an economic one most people will not see the fact that such a war is raging. After all both the USA and China are not even talking about any Cold war between the two of them. This of course is in stark contrast to the old Cold War between the USA and the USSR whereby both of the superpowers were openly attacking and accusing each other in an open political war around the globes.
And this new Cold War between the USA and China is also characterized by the fact that it is not really an ideological one. In the days f the Cold war between the USA and the USSR there were clearly defined ideologies espoused by each of the two superpowers, while the USSR was promoting Communism all over the world, the USA was promoting Capitalism all over the world. But in the case of this new Cold War between the USA and China there is no any ideological divide between the two. If anything at all the both of the two superpowers of the USA and China are actually adhering to the same ideology of international Capitalism.
And it is because there is no overt political and ideological antagonism between the USA and the USSR is one reason why this modern Cold War is not that obvious to the lay man and the common people on the street. But then this, of course, does not obliterate the fact that there is Cold War between the USA and China.
But then we should mark the fact that this Cold War between the USA and China is not going to remain static n the form of being just an economic one. In fact this new Cold War between the USA and China is gradually progressing from being an economic one to a political and eventually a military one.
In fact this Cold War between America and China is already gradually turning into a political and military one. Of course the economic phase of this Cold War II has already taken or assumed its permanent or final form in the sense that the Chinese economy has already overtaken the American economy as the biggest and largest economy in the world. It was in the 2013 that the Chinese economy overtook the American economy and ever since then the economic phase of this Cold War II is practically over as there is no more the question of whether the Chinese can catch up with the Americans economy wise or not.
And so is it that now that the economy of China has surpassed that of the USA the issue is no more a debatable one, it is now the issue of the Chinese going to overtake the Americans in other fields and sectors as well, that is apart from the economic sector in which the Chinese has already overtaken the Americans. The next and most important field in which the Chinese are now challenging the Americans is in the political field. The Chinese are now struggling seriously to overtake the Americans in terms of the political domination of the world.
We should note, however that apart from the political field in which the Chinese are struggling hard to overtake the Americans as the most powerful nation in the world the Chinese are also not leaving behind the race in terms of the scientific and technological challenge of the USA. As a matter of fact the need to challenge or even overtake the Americans in terms of scientific and technological development is part and parcel of the overall political race with the USA.
Ever since the days of the WWII the Chinese have noticed and observed that scientific and technological superiority are what made the Americans and Europeans to beat and defeat the Chinese. There was, therefore, that need for the Chinese to up their own scientific and technological development. That was the discovery and consequent resolution of Chairman Mao in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. And ever since those days the Chinese have never left behind the question and issue of how to catch up with the rest of the world and to even overtake the world in terms of scientific and technological superiority.
In fact the Chinese were defeated and humiliated by the Japanese in the First Sino-Japanese War and also when Japan invaded occupied parts of China during the Second Sino-Japanese War. This humiliating disgrace by Japan was only possible by the superior scientific and technological advancement of the Japanese especially in terms of military advancement. That was a lesson that the Chinese will never forget. And ever since then the Chinese have always overly emphasized the importance of scientific, technological and military superiority.
China had hardly recovered fully from the shock of being disgracefully conquered by the Japanese in the First Sino-Japanese War of the mid-1890s when China subsequently got humiliated by European colonialism. And that European colonialism was also only possible through the scientific, technological and military superiority of the European powers over China.
Then , and course, came about this Cold War II era whereby the Chinese are now realizing that unless they are able to seriously upgrade their scientific, technological and military superiority they will be humiliated and disgraced by an arrogant American power. It is in this context that the Chinese have decided in a very strong manner to ensure that they not only catch up with America in terms of scientific, technological and military superiority but that they will eventually overtake the USA in all these fields.
We see therefore that the current Cold War II between the USA and the Chinese is going is in the manner of a gradual transition from an economic stage into a political stage. This political stage of the Cold War II between the USA and China is already rearing up its head in the form of military competition between the two superpowers.
The Chinese are now seriously investing in their military capabilities and are vigorously building their military powers in such a manner that the Chinese military will soon overtake the American military. Right now America is the greatest military power in the world but it is clear even to casual observer that with the rate at which he Chinese military is growing today the Chinese military will soon overtake the American military and soon become the greatest military power in the world.
The fact here is that the Chinese has the advantage of demography and population on their side. With a population of almost two billion, which is almost eight times the population of America, China has this incredible reservoir of human resources that it can conveniently invest into its military sector to easily overtake America as the greatest military power in the world. Of course military superiority is not just about numbers alone but there is also the need to develop advance military hardware and software and that is why the Chinese authorities are also seriously investing into the scientific and technological sectors in order to also beat America and the Europeans in terms of scientific and technological superiority.
In any case the Chinese military is already headed for a great future that will definitely surpass the military prowess of America and the West today. The Chinese are so keen about the development of their military sector that they are pumping into it all their best in terms of finance and science.
There is no doubt that the Chinese military will soon overtake that of America and the rest of the West combined. And the day the Chinese military might overtakes that of America and the rest of the West is the day that the military and political balance of power of the world will be redefined.
Of course, and already we are in a situation whereby the political and military balance of power of the world is being redefined because the Americans and the rest of the West are already coming to terms with the bitter fact that China is already on the verge of becoming the greatest military power in the world.
We can see right now, and for instance, that almost all the political and economic activities in all part of the world today can readily be interpreted in terms of an economic and political battle between America and China. In other words these two world superpowers, namely, America and China, have already transformed the entire world into a chessboard of proxy warfare between them.
In particular we can see that the Americans are seriously disturbed with regard to the growing military capability of China.
